  • Wed, 12:47: I often think about the term 'small business'. Does it actually mean self-employment or simply working for yourself? I accept that not every owner/manager wants to grow or scale the business but there's a risk, otherwise, of turning one 'job' into another - with you as the Boss!
  • Wed, 17:58: Just finished speaking to someone about the unfolding climate catastrophe. It feels like we're tinkering with the problem and not addressing so many of the underlying, systemic problems. I know I talk about a new narrative but, truthfully, I don't even think we've got started.
  • Wed, 18:10: Work should be sacred. It rarely is. Certainly, in my lifetime, it's become a means to an end and lacks purpose, meaning and soul. If only companies would tune into that, the world would be a very different place.

  • Wed, 18:27: It seems so strange that daughter #3, aged 17, is now driving about. It only seems like yesterday I was taking her on her 1st driving lesson -- it was pretty scary!!
  • Wed, 18:30: I follow some wonderful photographers here and on Insta. It's a medium that never ceases to amaze me. I know I take the odd snap but I know my limitations!
  • Wed, 18:38: If you want to know my fav photographer on Twitter, hell, that's easy: @Astrid_Tontson. But I also very much like @DrSteveMarshall and @withnomoney. (sorry if I missed you out.)
  • Wed, 18:47: Alicia Keys: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert https://t.co/vWsiClSq2v / one of my fav sets. https://t.co/NNXnfZdYNM
  • Wed, 19:05: I dug out some old photos today -- I was in my early 20s. It made me realise how much time had elapsed but also how precious is the present moment -- hence the Merton quote.
  • Wed, 19:26: Me and Floz -- daughter #3 -- have spoken about Reading Festival. Seems pretty crazy. She's not going and I wonder how it's going to work in the midst of a pandemic. I feel for the youth of today.
  • Thu, 06:00: "Everything tells me that I am about to make a wrong decision, but making mistakes is just part of life. What does the world want of me? Does it want me to take no risks, to go back to where I came from because I didn't have the courage to say "yes" to life?" — Paulo Coelho

  • Thu, 07:05: I wonder what is top of the agenda for companies right now? I bet it's not climate change or loss of biodiversity. My guess is that it's that old chestnut: "Cash is King". As for the people (people first, second and third), don't get me started...at this time of the morning.

  • Thu, 10:24: I get the 'purpose driven' business thing but there's a dissonance with regards the nature of a company which is inherently (not in 100% of cases of course) ecocidal. And it's not about more words or carbon neutrality but questioning the whole raison d'tre of the business.
