I would like to say it's natural, but I think that would be making light of the subject.
For me writing has brought me to a place that I never thought possible. It's not some nirvana 'state' but rather a sense of self-belief that I never had in my previous life as a lawyer.
Writing allows me to let go in an air of modest appreciation for my craft. It's not that I want to compete, but there is a sense of appreciation when I look at something I have written.
I have plans for my writing, some I have shared, others that are still in the melting pot. Also, in time, I hope to help others on their journey of self-discovery.
If you have never thought yourself a writer don't worry. Nowadays it isn't about getting a fat ticket advance or an agent. No. It's about having the gumption, tenacity and fortitude to keep writing and focusing on something that you are truly passionate about (not 50 Shades please!).
If you need a hand I would highly recommend Anne Lamott's book Bird by Bird. It's still my favourite book on the craft.
If you do launch your project, do let me know. I would love to see how many people have migrated from blogging and published at least one book (or two).
