A flood of emotion
“Life is mostly froth and bubble,
Two things stand like stone.
Kindness in another's trouble,
Courage in your own.”
― Adam Lindsay Gordon
As I sit here typing this post, I'm listening to Maria Callas. It was how I started my day. At the same time, I was flooded with emotion thinking about that gut-wrenching scene in Philadelphia where Tom Hanks' character is talking to Denzel Washington about an aria that Maria Callas is singing. It was more than I could do not to burst into tears in front of my wife.
Honestly, I don't know why I'm feeling so emotional. Perhaps it's the fact, as I keep saying, that I feel blessed to be here — to be given a second chance if you like — or the fact that life, despite its many ups and downs, is so fu*king enriching, so alive, so...everything.
I'm also thinking a lot about why it is we see so little of the people we know and love. We hear the words, but do we ever see them?
Lastly, there's this sense that I could do more to change where I work if only I was a little braver. But then I remind myself that being present to what is, is just as meaningful as constantly wanting to change the world.
Sorry, I know this post is very self-referential but that's what I love about the art of blogging: you show up, you write and, well, the rest just happens.
Much love ❤️❤️, Ju
