Just show up

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”—Mary Oliver

As I sat there in the car with my daughter, Hetty, enroute to her first cycle race of the season, she asked me a slew of questions impacting on how she might make it as a Pro cyclist (she's 16).

I could have spoken deeply about the love of the sport, passion and the motivation to succeed, but, instead, I found myself uttering only three words.

"Just show up."

In the end, it's all that matters.

Let's face it, you may not be the most talented or driven, but showing up counts for everything. And I don't just mean in the physical sense but the mental capacity to see the bigger picture.

Easy, eh?

But you try to live it, every single day.
