Good morning 🌞
Yep, here we go again.
Another race to finish...off the week.
And it's only Monday.
Hello, Dear Livejournal friends.
How was your weekend?
Did you do all that you set out to do even if that was a big fat nothing?
Last night my wife and I and daughter #3 went to a 21st birthday party. Perhaps I'm getting old, but it seemed terribly sedate. When I was that age...oh god, I'd better not go there. It was nice though to see a few generations come together to break bread, talk and share a piece of birthday cake. These moments (as we well know) never come again, and whatever they feel or look like should be savoured.
This week my boss is out for the beginning part of the week. That will bring to the team a degree of solemnity and, no doubt, everyone will talk normally and not in faux 'corporate speak'. Me? I'll just keep doing my thing. That's the beauty of law: my client (so to speak) is the company, which is a legal fiction I know, but ultimately when it comes to giving advice, I'm not there to please all and sundry but to make sure the directors meet their statutory objectives — e.g. s.172 Companies Act 2006. See, I do practice a bit of law rather than spending all my time here 😂.
I've got to go and see daughter #3's tutor at College. Let's just say there are few issues not of her making that I've got to sort out. Nothing heavy but I think the person concerned needs a healthy dose of reality, particularly bearing in mind he's been doing the job for 30+ years and it seems to me (yes, I'm partisan) he's forgotten why he's there; namely, not to serve his ego but to help every student learn.
Daughter #1 has found a lovely flat in London. There were (as there is always is) a few legal hiccups but she moved in without any fuss. Me and Mrs will be going up to Oxford on Friday to stay with my brother and his wife and then, early Saturday, we'll drive into London to drop off all her stuff.
Daughter #2 is in Switzerland with her boyfriend and his parents. They've gone skiing and I just hope they manage to find some snow. From what I've seen on Instagram, it all seems a bit, err, bare.
This weekend I had another conversation with Mrs S about van life. I thought I might at least sew the seed of what we might do in a couple of years time — I've mentioned it before — but so far, there's a gap between us. I want to sell up completely and see where the road takes us; Mrs S isn't prepared to travel for more than a few weeks at a time and wants (always) to return to a fixed abode. I'm sure within each space there's a compromise — hell, I might lose interest by the time it comes time to cut the Gordian Knot to the old life — but then again, I'm struggling to reconcile the two. We'll get there, I'm sure.
Anyhow, I better get going. I've got a few things to do before I leave for work, not least walking my bestie, Alfie.
I hope you have a great day.
