Take nothing for granted

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”
Oscar Wilde

Take nothing for granted.

It's easier said than done.

And, sadly, we rarely do — or at least that's my experience.

Instead, we get stuck in a rut and fall asleep to life. If anything wakes us up, it doesn't do so for long before we're right back at it.

Work doesn't help. It mostly drains us of life rather lifting our soul to the exalted heights we're gifted.

In the end, we arrive at a point where we say:

"[Seriously] ...is this it?"

And it mostly is.

A life of doing it, doing it, doing it.

Of course, this message is bleak and I've no doubt there are many ways to escape the vicissitudes of a numbed-out life, but we can't seem to muster or find the courage to break the bonds with our old life.

It's mostly (of course) a head game; we let our Lizard Brain do all the talking so that eventually we're scared even to stand up for what we believe less still to act on it.

Then again, there are ways to trick our Lizard Brain, not least having no choice or showing up no matter the consequences.

But perhaps I've got this all wrong. Rather than running away from one life seeking a new one, we'd be better off acknowledging what we've got — including life.

Yes, life.

The greatest gift of all.

Deep bows.
