I'm sorry that I've not shown up on LJ and dealt with all the kind comments on this week's posts. Work (I'm afraid to say) has rather taken over.
Over the last couple of days, a few old and new writers have shown up, which I've begun to explore. In particular, the work of Hunter S. Thompson and Charlie Mackesy. I've also been thinking a lot about those writers that truly light up my life.
And?
Well, it's made me think that my writing is, well, boring and, sadly, it's become very repetitive.
Of course, it may just be a passing phase, but if nothing else, I'm acutely aware how, once again, I'm stuck writing about my oh-so-ordinary life.
I mean, who cares?
What else would or should I be writing about?
A lot, actually:
1. the dire state of the planet 2. the corrupt political system 3. faux leadership 4. love 5. landscape 6. food 7. relationships
to name but a few.
What's stopping you?
Nothing. That's not quite true. Despite me previously extolling the virtues of my spontaneous writing style, a bit of planning and forward-thinking wouldn't go amiss. Not just that but an average post length of, say, 500 words isn't always the right way to convey my message. Sometimes, the long-form is much more appealing but then again a haiku can capture the mood of a meme/story better than a weighty tomb.
What am I really saying?
Simple: I need to stop repeating myself.
So, starting tomorrow, I'm going to see how many posts I can write over the coming week on a subject which to the best of my knowledge I've not previously written about. I could, of course, prepare some sort of calendar but I'd much prefer to show up, battle Resistance and see what happens.
In the meantime, I promise to respond to the outstanding comments and do my best to comment on as many pieces as possible in my LJ feed.
