When work meets life

“I want to feel all there is to feel, he thought. Let me feel tired, now, let me feel tired. I mustn't forget, I'm alive, I know I'm alive, I mustn't forget it tonight or tomorrow or the day after that.” Ray Bradbury

Most people have given up on work.

It's just that and it's tiring, really tiring.

Call me insane -- I know I'm deluded -- but I still believe that work, even the supremely tedious variety, has the potential to lift us up emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.

Because if we care enough about our soul we'll come to realise that even in the mundane there's joy to be found.

Of course, I'd rather that people were doing something enriching, but judging by what I've witnessed these past 40 years, there ain't much of that about.

Perhaps that's it. We've to accept that life, rather than being lived out through the lens of hedonism, excess and the consumption of crap, is work, and life is work.

But then again, I could have missed the mark by a factor of 100.

What do you think?
