Being true to who we are

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Seriously, how hard can it be? To be you, and nothing else.

And yet, whether by omission or commission, we rarely, if ever, step out of the shadows.

If life is what we make it, that doesn't mean living someone else's dreams or giving up on everything we hold so dear. It means being you...100% of the time.

Oh sure, fear, insecurity and perception (of others) always get in the way, but when you reach that point in your life where you recognise that what's gone before is pointless, you'll most likely lack the will to break down the barriers and merely revert to the status quo, where you'll see out your days. (How sad.)

I suppose what I'm getting at, is to stop talking about the life you wish you were living and start living it. All the rest, as they say, is easy.
