Going off-line for a while

Home sweet home

I'm off on holiday with the family for the next couple of weeks. We're headed to Menorca.

I suspect there won't be many places with Wi-Fi, and so I don't expect to be active on social media or be able to blog. I must admit to being nervous. Even when I've gone away before - Padstow for the last few years - I've always manage to plug back in to the grid at some point. That said, I'm looking forward to not having to check in and make my way across a slew of platforms. Don't get me wrong. It's not that I don't love what I do, but, just once in a while, I think it's good not to have to pick up your phone or tablet to see what's going on. Frankly, I will have enough going on as Dad to three amazing children who haven't seen much of me this year. Certainly, for my eldest daughter Evie, it may be the last holiday we take as a family.

In addition to all the amazing things that I know we will do - we're not a sit down do nothing type of Crew - I intend to write, write, write. And I want to get back to drawing. I used to love pen and ink drawing. My favourite was one I did of the late Dave Brubeck. And then there's poetry and the spoken word material that I need to get out of my head. This week I've been listening to rap again. At the time I started listening to it - 10 years ago - I couldn't really understand why I was attracted to it, but now I understand completely. It's the story, combined with the rawness. I don't think myself a rapper - hell my kids would disown me - but I see so much autobiography in my work that would lend itself to spoken word. I want to perform as soon as I have enough material to know that I'm not going to run out of steam within one slot or two.

Finally, I will read some of my books on Kindle. At the last count I had 193. I reckon I can read one every three days. We'll see! I don't want to feel compelled to get up early every morning, and it will be nice to take things as they come.

I know this looks all pretty ambitious but I like to shoot for the stars.

Underlying all of this is my 'work'. I need to create more original content to share and that includes at least one manifesto.

Anyhow, enough of my ramblings.

Have a great break if you're going away.

Until next time.

Julian.
