Stop taking your connections for granted

Social media is at risk of being corrupted by the unhealthy pursuit of profit.

In short, we need to stop seeing the connection or growing of a Tribe as a way to sell our message.

When I started out in social media it was because of reading The Go-Giver by Messrs Burg and Man. The five laws of underpinning the book seem as relevant then as they do now.

The Law of Value – Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

The Law of Compensation - Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

The Law of Influence - Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.

The Law of Authenticity - The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

The Law of Receptivity – The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.


This isn't about getting trapped in the 'free' argument. It's about seeing people for something more than a sales ticket. For me, the more people I can help the happier I am. Of course, I want to run a successful business but my intention is to not to sell you anything save self-belief. You remember the old Napoleon Hill quote:

"Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve."
